Additionally, they own and operate 1,776 housing units and are actively involved in real estate development.General Purpose as Eligibility SpecialistAs the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC) strives to promote and provide affordable housing opportunities for the community, the Eligibility Specialist is responsible for determining applicant eligibility for housing assistance by verification of information and ensuring they are eligible according to Federal regulations and Housing Authority policies and procedures, and maintenance of accurate physical and computer files. The Eligibility Specialist position is performed entirely onsite at HASLC's main office in Salt Lake City, Utah. • Analyzes individual housing assistance applications to determine eligibility and priorities according to HUD regulations and Housing Authority policies. Reviews and interprets information provided on a variety of forms by the client and third parties to assist with eligibility determinations.
• Inputs housing application data into computer system and performs periodic updates of waiting lists to ensure accuracy of applicant information.
• Performs notification and verification processes for housing programs, when applicants have reached the top of the waiting list. Assure applications are processed in an accurate and timely manner.
• Distributes applications and other required program forms to clients.
• Organizes and prioritizes caseload ensuring that records and documents are processed and updated according to Housing Authority priorities.
• Communicates both orally and in writing with clients and others related to eligibility processes while maintaining confidentiality.Desired Skills & Experience of Eligibility Specialist

• Equivalent of a high school education and 1 year of work experience performing clerical or receptionist duties with high public contact, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Exceptional customer service skills with ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work well with other employees and the public under varying circumstances and function effectively in stressful situations to meet agency goals and deadlines.
• Proven ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to relate to and communicate professionally with persons from all socio-economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.
