Job Summary

Patient care in the Division of General Surgery, Comprehensive Weight Management Program.

The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nurse practitioner) role in the Comprehensive Weight Management Program provides care to patients in a University Health Sciences clinic. Individual will provide outpatient care for medically complex patients with obesity and obesity related conditions. We seek a patient-focused, compassionate, self-motivated provider with excellent communication skills who has the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Our APCs are valued members of our teams and work collaboratively with physicians as well as independently. The Comprehensive Weight Management Program is a multi-disciplinary program that currently consists of physicians, APCs, dietitians and an exercise physiologist along with collaboration with other specialists.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on-campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the work site if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.



Responsibilities
Independent outpatient clinic 4 days/week, 1 administrative dayProvide dietary and lifestyle education to promote weight lossPrescribing FDA approved medications for the treatment of obesity according to state and federal guidelinesProvide appropriate treatment and care for patients with obesity related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart failure, hypertension, fatty liver disease, etc.Providing appropriate care for bariatric surgery patients in the pre- and post-op periodTreatment of vitamin and nutrient deficienciesRespond to outpatient messages and telephone callsObtaining and reviewing patient's medical historyConducting physical examinationsOrdering and reviewing laboratory studies as well as diagnostic proceduresReviewing patients' progress and manages patient care accordinglyMaintaining all required documentation for patient careProviding training to clinical and non-clinical staff as neededParticipating in team meetings, education conferences, special projects as requiredAssist in the collection for research projects

Minimum Qualifications
Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
